<image:caption>i miss the beach the freedom of tomorrow the sand that clings, begging to come along the embrace from a friend the smell of sunscreen i miss having things to look forward to sitting on your couch drinking wine with open hearts the coffee shop filled with strangers and an abundance of time no rush or hurry, no impulse to wash or sanitize i miss the mutual unspoken trust a door held open was just kindness, not a threat by an invisible enemy i miss having the choice to slow down rather than the order</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Gaze Off by Engage - Manny Contreras of Engage has been releasing one new song at the top of every month with inspiration as his main objective. In his own words he’s here to, “express not impress.” This months timely release is entitled, Gaze Off.</image:title>
<image:caption>“I guess in a time where attention spans get shorter and shorter I wanted to write a longer song where you can close your eyes and really look and see what’s going on in yourself. The songs starts off a little aggressive— similar to the times, but you find some comfort in between it all.” -Manny</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Mary Johnston</image:title>
<image:caption>Despite the shut down of most non-essential businesses, Mary Johnston of Merry Floral has finagled a way to continue bringing us the brightness of her flower arrangements. While the necessity of small businesses doesn’t technically fall under the guidelines of The Department of Homeland Security, Mary seems to understand that florals are still ~very much~ essential. I was inspired to make this illustration out of my love for flowers. I am a full time floral designer in New Orleans, and all of my Spring and Summer events have been postponed to Fall. My boyfriend bought this iPad last November, but I have been trying to learn to use it during our quarantine. I looked at photos of my arrangements on my Instagram feed, and did my best to imitate some of my favorite flower’s shapes. My favorite flower within this drawing may be the white flower on the upper left. While I don’t know my way around Procreate, I have been mastering heart shapes all of my life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Frankie Alduino - Frankie Alduino isn’t letting the shelter-in-place slow down his creativity. The NYC based photographer is engaging daily with creative prompts to maintain his work ethic and keep his city’s economy afloat:</image:title>
<image:caption>“My friends Atarah Atkinson and Alicia Henderson own a beautiful studio in Brooklyn called The Atrium. Throughout the economic beating that has been COVID-19 they've hosted a daily creative prompt to both keep photographers active in their practice while in isolation as well as bringing some much needed exposure to their studio which, like many small businesses, is struggling to stay afloat. These three photographs are interpretations of the prompts: Line, Repetition, and Self Portrait. These were all taken in my living room with everyday household items that I just found laying around (butcher string, a wire hanger, a tennis ball, etc etc).”</image:caption>

<image:title>About - BECAUSE YOUR ART CAN STILL LEAVE THE HOUSE.</image:title>
<image:caption>You binged Tiger King and scrolled Instagram long enough to consider downloading TikTok . Now what? Well, you could start on that batch of banana bread OR you could make something you might actually enjoy. (That’s where we come in!) We are undoubtedly living in unprecedented times. Most of the numbers surrounding COVID-19 are a grim confirmation of just that. Since March we’ve been ordered to shelter-in-place with the hope of seeing those grim numbers drop. As a result, amidst the tragedy of a global pandemic, the environment is thriving. Carbon emissions are down and both the Venice canals and the Himalayas are visible for the first time in decades. One of the amazing things about what’s happening isn’t that the earth is creating anything new, but that it simply has space again to return to itself. And out of that return the world is creating for itself the very things that offer life. QUARANZINE is an invitation to do the same. In the new rhythm of our days we are invited to return to ourselves and celebrate what happens when we do. Consider your boredom an opportunity to create that which might offer you life, because unlike us our art can actually leave the house. AND WHO KNOWS. Maybe we can print this bad boy and give the proceeds to COVID relief efforts. IDK. All I know is that we are celebrating our return and making a mini museum of these trying times.
